Position Title: Director of Transportation
Brief Description: Responsible for the overall administration of the District’s transportation system which involves its safe, efficient and economical operation and maintenance. The Director of Transportation acts as a liaison between the Transportation Department and parents, students, teachers and school administrators to ensure its smooth running. Supervision is exercised over the work of Bus Drivers, Mechanics, and other Transportation Department personnel. The work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Administration Officer, with a high level of autonomy performed collaboratively with the District Executive Team.
The successful applicant will have the proven ability to build a community of school bus drivers, aides, mechanics, and clerical colleagues devoted to best practices in transportation services including; an overriding emphasis on safety, development of a culturally responsive and inclusive
transportation experience for all students as individuals.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five years of experience in one or more components of a large scale transportation system (e.g., operations, scheduling, dispatching, automotive repairs or maintenance, etc.); two years of which must have been in a supervisory position.

B. Must be eligible through the City of Ithaca Civil Service for appointment as a Transportation Supervisor.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If the position involves the operation of a school bus, then the following special requirements apply: Applicants must possess a valid NYS Class B Commercial Driver License or a Commercial Driver License equivalent to a NYS Class B Commercial Driver License at the time of appointment and must maintain said license for the duration of employment. Candidates must also satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver as set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education, State Education Law and the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000
