NOTICE OF VACANCY

Position Title: School District Board Clerk 

(Full-time Equivalency: 1.0 (38½ hours per week)

Brief Description:  Performs the duties of a School District Clerk as specified in Sec. 2121 of NYS Ed. Law and serves as the Clerk to the Board of Education.

Location(s): District-Offices, 400 Lake Street

Required Qualifications:

  •  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year degree.

  •  Candidates must either possess a license as Notary Public in the State of New York at the time of appointment, or must obtain said license within one (1) year of appointment, and must maintain the license for the duration of employment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Proven ability to interact effectively with students and their families who represent cultures that are diverse in terms of race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other characteristics in order to build an effective and collaborative school community; and

  •  Ability to work long hours, including evenings and nights, and occasionally, weekends.

Expected Work Activities

  •  manages all activities related to Board of Education meetings and work sessions, including, but not limited to, developing the agenda, preparing and distributing board packets and all required information prior to meetings, preparing meeting room arrangements;
  •  develops and maintains websites and social media related to the Board of Education;
  •  attends Board of Education meetings and board work sessions, takes notes and prepares official minutes of Board of Education meetings and proceedings, and distributes minutes to board members and school personnel;
  •  maintains the official minutes and records of the Board of Education and provides certification thereof for legal and official district use;
  •  prepares documentation, maintains official records, and coordinates School District Election, fulfilling all legal requirements pertaining to the annual election of School Board members and the district budget vote.
  •  assists board members in making travel arrangements for attendance at local, state and national meetings, conferences, and workshops;
  •  maintains and annually updates the Policy and Procedures handbook for the Board of Education;
  •  serves as Notary Public to the Board and district staff members for notarial certification on forms, reports, etc.;
  •  provides administrative assistance to the Superintendent;
  •  drafts correspondences, communications, and other memoranda for the Board of Education and Superintendent;
  •  serves as the interface between community and School Board members on correspondence, inquiries, and requests for information, and
  •  gathers information, writes, edits, and designs district reports, press releases, calendars, and other highest-level publications for wider distribution throughout the community.

Minimum Qualifications: The School District Clerk is in the exempt class and there are no minimum requirements. However, it is recommended that the appointee meet the following criteria:

  • any combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year degree;
  • ability to understand and interpret complex oral and written instructions;
  • ability to consistently perform with a high degree of accuracy and to independently solve complex issues;
  •  ability to interact effectively with students and families who represent cultures that are diverse in terms of race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other characteristics in order to build effective and collaborative school communities;
  •  ability to exhibit exceptional level of professionalism, tact, and courtesy, especially when working with the public;
  • ability to maintain exceptional level of confidentiality, especially when working with personnel and sensitive material;
  •  ability to work long hours, including evenings and nights and occasionally weekends, and
  •  ability to contribute to an inclusive, diverse and respectful environment and to demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with students, staff, faculty, Board members, and community.

Special Requirements:

Salary Range: $60,000- $70,000
