Position Title: School Business Official

Brief Description: The School Business Official provides leadership and coordination for the district’s business affairs, including budget development and management, payroll, accounts payable and receivable.  Long-range planning, oversight and management of capital projects. This position ensures full implementation and responsibility for state and federal financial, auditing and other public school business related mandates as prescribed by law.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and monitors the district’s annual operating budget.

  • Communicates the district’s initiatives and strategies for increasing student achievement, supporting equity, diversity and inclusivity and promoting the district as a whole.

  • Oversees the development of materials for capital project budgeting and closing, opening, expansion and renovation of district facilities.

  • Oversees and coordinates responses to audits, including annual independent audits, insurance audits, and state and federal agency audits.

  • Establishes, monitors and evaluates the district’s insurance programs.

  • Monitors the submission and accounting of state and federal grants.

  • Ensures timely filing of applications for state aid.

  • Oversees the monthly reporting of financial statements and bid award recommendations to the Board of Education.

  • Reviews proposed contracts for professional and purchased services.

  • Provides statistical and financial information and advisement.

  • Communicates effectively with Board members, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and caregivers, community members, taxpayers, and business partners.

  • Assists the Superintendent of Schools in formulating and recommending policies and goals for the operation of the district.

  • Assists the Superintendent of Schools with special studies, projects, and correspondence.

  • Assists principals and directors with resource allocations that allow schools and departments to excel instructionally and execute district initiatives.

  • Ensures compliance of schools and departments with all pertinent federal and state regulations and requirements related to various data and operational regulations.

  • Represents the Superintendent of Schools as an official of the district. 

  • Performs a multitude of other duties as assigned.

  • Throughout their term of employment, possess and maintain appropriate New York State administrator certification for the position of School Business Official;or appropriate Civil Service qualifications.

  • Exhibited strong leadership attitude in support of school district goals.

  • High level of energy and enthusiasm for the district’s work, goals, and commitments

Salary Range:  $150,000-$190,000
