Position Title: Middle School Literacy Coach (1.167 FTE – one-year only)

Brief Description:  The Middle School Literacy Coach is a teacher leader responsible for building teacher capacity to deliver high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction across all content areas. Grounded in the Science of Reading, this role supports educators in implementing rigorous, grade-level instruction that ensures all students—especially those historically underserved—have access to meaningful, text-rich learning experiences.

  1.   2. Tell us about any personal and professional experiences you have had that would help you help us to fulfill our district equity goals.

  3. The Ithaca City School District is a 1:1 district in grades 3-12. Please provide examples of how you have used or your vision for using digital technology in instruction. Also, please provide evidence of how you stay current with students’ digital world.

Required Qualifications: 

  • The Ithaca City School District is committed to eliminating race, class, and disability as predictors of academic performance, co-curricular participation, and discipline. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a basic awareness of these commitments and a strong willingness to support these efforts.

  • Possession of a valid New York State teaching certification (Secondary ELA preferred; other content areas with a strong literacy background considered)

Desired Characteristics:

  • Successful classroom teaching experience
  • Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy instruction
  • Experience with instructional coaching, adult learning, or teacher leadership preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive-sustaining practices
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to sharing resources and expertise and pursuing innovative solutions in a collaborative environment

Salary Range:  $56,918-$119,338 (10-month full-time basis) Based on the 26-27 ITA step and lane salary grid
