Position Title:

2.0 School Bus Mechanics/Drivers

Minimum           

Civil Service Qualifications:

 

  1. Possession of an Associate's Degree in automotive or diesel technology; OR
  2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and one year of experience as a journey level Automotive Mechanic; OR
  3. Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and three years of experience in the repair of automotive equipment; OR
  4. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.

Brief Description:

Operates a school bus in Emergency Situations; Does paperwork as required (e.g., time sheets, mileage records, defect sheets, accident forms, etc.); Perfoms maintenance and repairs on motor equipment such as buses, trucks, tractors, etc.; Repairs or overhauls brake systems, clutches, differentials, transmissions, and front and rear axles; Repairs generators, starters, lights and ignition; Tunes motors and adjusts carburetors; Adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels; Grinds valves and fits new bearings, pistons and rings; Greases vehicles, changes oil and oil filters; Inspects automotive equipment to insure compliance with New York State Motor Vehicle Inspection Regulations; May perform body work and painting; May be required to work and clean, maintaining work area; Maintain and repair various grounds and snow removal equipment; Snow removal and salting.

First, Day, or Second Shift possible

BUS DRIVER TRAINEES - NO CDL REQUIRED 

TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

20 HOURS PER WEEK MINIMUM

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Complete paid driver training program which includes studying for CDL with the guidance of Ithaca City School District 19A trainers.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a currently valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years

                                                of age.

SALARY RANGE: $15.80 per hour while training 

(once soloed $23.67 per hour)
