When driving, the incumbent is responsible for the safe transfer of school children and for maintaining discipline on the bus. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with established policies and procedures. For those without a CDL, the role includes completing a paid driver training program, which involves studying for the CDL with the support of 19A trainers from the Ithaca City School District. To be hired as a Bus Driver (rather than a Bus Driver Trainee), candidates must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Desired Characteristics: -
Proven ability to interact effectively with students and their families who represent cultures that are diverse in terms of race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other characteristics in order to build an effective and collaborative school community; Salary Range: $24.95 per hour as a licensed Bus Driver. $15.80 per hour during CDL training. - Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and one year of experience as a journey level Automotive Mechanic; OR
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and three years of experience in the repair of automotive equipment; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
