Position Title: Piano Accompanist

Brief Description: Ithaca City School District is a vibrant community dedicated to nurturing emerging performing artists. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated rehearsal pianist to accompany upcoming musical theater rehearsals and productions. We aim to inspire middle and high school students through engaging musical experiences.

Job Summary: The accompanist will play a pivotal role in supporting our musical theater program by providing live piano accompaniment during rehearsals and performances. This position requires not only advanced musical skills but also the ability to collaborate effectively with directors, choreographers, and student performers. A passion for working with young artists and fostering their creativity is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities: Provide piano accompaniment for rehearsals, ensuring fidelity to the score and facilitating smooth transitions between scenes and musical numbers. - Collaborate closely with the creative team, including the musical director, director, and choreographer, to interpret and enhance the musical vision of the production. - Assist in musical coaching for students, offering constructive feedback and support to help them develop their vocal and performance skills. - Maintain a positive, encouraging, and inclusive atmosphere during rehearsals, catering to the diverse needs and skill levels of middle and high school students. - Attend all scheduled rehearsals, tech weeks, and performances as required, and be prepared for any additional coaching sessions.

Required Qualifications:

  •  Proficient piano skills with a strong understanding of musical theater repertoire and vocal accompaniment techniques. 

  • Previous experience as a collaborative pianist in educational or professional settings is preferred. 

  • Ability to read and interpret sheet music fluently, with a knack for improvisation and adapting to different musical styles. 

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, fostering a supportive environment for young performers. 

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced rehearsal setting.

  • A genuine appreciation for and understanding of the challenges and dynamics involved in working with middle and high school students in a performing arts context.

 

Salary Range:  $27.74  per hour  base with additional rate based on relevant experience.

Position Title: TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, ICSD THEATERS

Brief Description:

The Fine and Performing Arts Department seeks additional technical assistance on an hourly timesheet for the theatrical productions and events with the ICSD theaters for 2024-2025. Duties may include, but are not limited to, lighting, sound, set design or set construction and tech crew supervision and training. 

The Technical Assistant will provide implementation and/or supervision of the technical operations for the theatrical productions or events within the ICSD theaters. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Fine and Performing Arts with considerable latitude allowed for the exercise of independent judgment and creativity in collaboration with the full time Technical Assistant for ICSD theaters. 

Duties may include: 

? Communication and collaboration with creative team and Fine Arts Director during pre-production, production and post-production dates, through design meetings, production meetings with the creative team, and check in meetings with the Fine Arts Director. 

? Approval of production designs that fall within the scope of the production in regards to time, resources and budget. 

? Scenery construction and implementation is completed and falls within the scope of the production in regards to time, resources and budget. 

? Supervision and training is provided to the tech crew engaged in technical activities for the production and performances or event. 

? Assurance of proper operation and care of all AV and technical equipment. 

? Maintenance of an orderly storage, theater and backstage area for scenery, lighting, sound and theatrical equipment during rehearsals and performances in adherence with safety protocols and fire codes. 

? Adherence to district and department goals and commitments. 

? AED/CPR training and certification.

Up to 291 hours at 21.58 for LACS extracurricular theater activities 

Up to 200 hours at 21.58 for IHS, DE & BOY extracurricular theater activities

Anticipated Start Date: 9/9/2024-6/27/2025

Required Qualifications:

  • A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Fine and Performing Arts, Visual Communications, Visual Arts, Computer Technology, or a related field with similar course curriculum. The coursework for such degree must have included at least five (5) theatrical productions that involved activities such as technical direction, lighting, sound, carpentry, video or related activities; or 

  • B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate's degree in Fine and Peforming Arts, Visual Communications, Visual Arts, Computer Technology, or a related field with similar course curriculum and two (2) years of full time paid experience, or its part-time and/or volunteer equivalent, in theatrical productions that involved activities such as technical direction, lighting, sound, carpentry, video or related activities; or 

  • C. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of full time paid experience, or its part time and/or volunteer equivalent, in theatrical productions that involved activities such as technical direction, lighting, sound, carpentry, video or related activities; or 

  • D. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.

     

 

Salary Range:  $22.86 per hour in accordance with Collective Bargain Agreement
